The final award of the evening was presented to the department who had showed most strength in depth, by having finallists and winners in most categories. This was presented by Karen Roy, Head of Business Development at Phlexglobal. She likened this category to “Best Picture”at the Oscars.
By analysing the placings throughout the evening, the award went to Chiltern International, who had winners in two categories. Linda Christmas of Chiltern stepped up to receive the award. She said she was delighted and thanked her team, their clients and everyone involved in the effort.
Sean thanked the event sponsors and his team that made the awards dinner an excellent evening, and ended the ceremony as he’d begun it, by asking all the finallists to stand up to take our plentiful applause.
This brought an end to the evening’s formal activites… and that’s when the party commenced. Perhaps not always known for their dancing, the clinical research industry showed their lighter side by partying long into the night.
This ends the live reporting for the CRfocus blog, but look out for a printed version of this report, along with photos of the winners, in the April issue of CRfocus.
The team challenge was a long and complex event, and Sean introduced all the judges who took part in the simulation. Dr Wade Brett, VP of Clinical Development for MDS Pharma Services, presented the awards. He was proud to do this because, if individual professionals are the heartbeat of the industry, the team is what helps us to perform. Excellent individuals can only deliver if they function as part of motivated, dedicated teams.
The winning team came from ICON Clinical Research (Netherlands): Dominique Stokman, Jessica Turfboer, Jenina Weiring and Kees Boot. All four of them jumped up and down on the stage holding the award together. Although they did have a “lucky tulip” they also thanked their colleagues for helping them to prepare. Their achievement was made all the more significant because the simulation was conducted in English, the team’s second language.
